Expressions Dance Company aims to be a place where all young people can engage in dance classes which enable and nurture them to be the best person they can be – both as a dancer and as an individual.

Expressions Dance Company is committed to producing dancers who are versatile, well educated in both technique and expression, and who are strong, authentic young people. We believe every young dancer has the ability to increase their physical, emotional and intellectual wellbeing through dance. Our aim is to provide an environment which balances the demands of training with creativity and care, while allowing for individual growth and expression. We are committed to being a friendly, family orientated studio with quality tutors who care about the dancer’s individual needs. We aim to nurture young people through dance – to guide students to develop into well-balanced human beings, with a strong ethical sense – well fed in body, mind and spirit.

Thank you for your interest in Expressions Dance Company. There is a lot of choice out there for young dancers. Our location caters well for young dancers from Hornby, Halswell, Wigram, Riccarton and the wider southwest of Christchurch and Selwyn. We have over 20 years experience teaching young dancers and here at Expressions Dance Company, we are committed to be a family centred studio where everyone is welcome and treated with respect. We hear from many parents about their experiences at dance classes and how they were made to feel bad about themselves. Our classes and studio environment is a positive place where we do not use negative language about anyone’s bodies, talent or ability. We want to be a place where all achievements, regardless of how small, are celebrated - a place where young dancers are allowed to grow and mature in a safe nurturing environment and a place where we are all a big family. All young people need a ‘village’ around them as they grow. Our aim is to be part of that ‘village’ and provide a place where young people are safe, guided and cherished for the amazing young people they are.
What Classes and Programmes do We Offer?
We offer classes in ballet, jazz and tap as well as our Performance Companies. Young dancers can start at age 3.5 and continue their training with us until they are adults. Performance Company is for those dancers who love performing and want to be extended as a performer. For more information on the classes, link here.
All dancers are welcome to come and try a class before enrolling with us. Trial classes can happen anytime - no need to wait till the start of a term, just send us a message and we can confirm what class would be best for your dancer to try first.
